OEG Energy Group Limited (“OEG”, the “Group”), a leading offshore solutions business, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Coates as Topside Director at OEG Renewables (“OEGR”).
Ian Coates has been the Managing Director at Specialist Marine Consultants Limited (SMC) since he founded the business in 2006. Under his leadership he grew SMC to become a globally recognised provider of specialist topside services to the offshore energy and civil marine sectors. SMC was acquired by OEGR in 2022. Prior to founding SMC, Ian became a prominent figure in the offshore industry having worked on multiple global offshore projects.
This appointment further strengthens the OEGR management team as the company positions itself to further expand its global service offering and pursue an ambitious growth strategy. A key milestone achieved this year was the growth in OEGR revenues to 50% of the Group’s total revenues, which are in excess of $400m (including recent acquisitions), demonstrating the rapid growth and investment into developing a world-class business servicing the global offshore renewables markets.
OEGR has continued to expand its service offering and has established itself as a key player on major offshore wind projects in the UK, the EU and Taiwan, and is positioned to grow into emerging markets such as Japan, South Korea and the US.
The OEGR Topside division offers a range of specialist services providing marine coordination, balance of plant, technology, temporary power and welfare solutions, which can be deployed alongside the wider OEGR and OEG Offshore offering, giving the opportunity to offer integrated service solutions to support wind farm developments through the construction and operation phases.
Commenting on his new role, Ian said: “I’m excited to take on this role at OEGR as we pursue an ambitious growth strategy to expand our global footprint and service offerings. I look forward to leading the OEGR Topside division, working with our specialist teams who are recognised experts in their field, to grow and develop the value proposition for our clients”.
Eric Briar, OEGR’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted to have Ian joining OEGR as Topside Director. Ian has significant experience in the offshore energy and civil marine sectors which will be invaluable as the company embarks on the next phase of its ambitious growth strategy, expanding and developing our service offering. The rapid growth of our Renewables business corresponds to strong market drivers in the global offshore energy space, with installed capacity within offshore wind forecast to grow at ~22% p.a. reaching 344GW operating capacity by 2035, and OEG continues to position its business to capitalise on this vast industry opportunity.”
